United manager Simon Grayson was delighted to see his team return to winning ways on Monday night after a 2-1 Elland Road success against in-form Norwich City.
An injury-time winner from Jermaine Beckford secured the points after Bradley Johnson had opened the scoring in the first half - Grant Holt levelled for Norwich - and the manager felt it was his side's hardest fought win so far this season.
"It was a good game of football," said the boss. "We played one of the best teams we've played, who gave us hardest game we've had with their football and their system.
"But we kept going and we showed a desire to succeed. We know we can play better, but you have to give to give the opposition credit sometimes.
"The winning goal came from a mistake but Jermaine was rewarded for keeping going. Some players had turned their backs, but he was there, waiting.
"We had chances before that as well. They outweighed us in terms of possession, but Casper hasn't had too many saves to make over the course of the night. Their keeper was worked a lot more.
"We'd had to change things around a bit to get back into the game at half-time and I felt for Paul Lambert at the end because his team did him proud.
"A lot of people might forget the performance in a couple of months and just look at the result. They played better than us but there is more to come from us.
"The break we've had helped us in terms of getting players back, but maybe it didn't in terms of match fitness, and when you're chasing like we did - you tend to tire - but in the second half we got in their faces abnd showed a good attitude."
Grayson unleashed two new faces with Sam Vokes making his first start and Max Gradel coming on as a second half substitute. Tresor Kandol also returned to first team action for the first time since May 2008 and his arrival, coupled with that of Gradel, gave the final moments a spark.
"That's Max for you," added the boss.
"Whether he's wide, up front, or just behind. He lively and has electric pace, he did change the game.
"Tres did as well when he came on, and that's no disrespect to Sam who I thought was excellent."
