Jonny Howson in action against Carlisle

Simon Grayson may have seen his side's Elland Road winning streak come to an end on Tuesday - but the manager was able to reflect on a terrific start to the season.

Grayson's men, who were denied another three points by Carlisle's Scott Dobie, have won eight and drawn two of the opening 10 league games and currently sit three points clear in League One.

"It was a quiet dressing room after the game, but you have to be positive with the start we've had," he said.

"Being honest, we would have taken four points from the two games against MK Dons and Carlisle, and we would have taken the start we've had - every team in the country would take it.

"You'd take the league position we're in and if you'd have said to me at the start of the season 'would you be happy with eight wins and two draws from the first 10 games?' then the answer would have been yes.

"I'm happy and pleased with what we've done so far this season, but disappointed with the performance on Tuesday."

United had taken the lead against Carlisle when Jermaine Beckford converted a penalty at the second attempt, but the visitors hit back in the second half and honours ended even.

It was the first league draw at Elland Road since Boxing Day 2008 - Grayson's first game as manager - and the boss said he was disappointed with the performance.

"I'm disappointed we didn't win, but ultimately it's another point," he said.

"We were lacking the sharpness and quality that we've had in other games, but you get performances like that.

"We've had a busy schedule and there's a few tired legs, but I'm not going to use that as an excuse.

"Carlisle are a decent team. They've got some good experienced players, they made it difficult and we lacked that bit of quality."
