United's Academy sides picked up two good results against Manchester United on Saturday.

While the under-18s drew 2-2 with the Reds, the under-16s picked up a fine 4-1 victory.

The under-18s had fallen a goal behind in their clash, but an own goal levelled matters before Lewis Turner made it 2-1 before the hour-mark.

The visitors levelled matters before the final whistle, though, ensuring honours ended even.

"We went in 1-0 down at half-time, but the second half was a different kettle of fish," said Under-18s manager Neil Redfearn. "We were very positive in pressing high up the pitch and wrestled the initiative away from Manchester.

"The only draw back was that we didn't see the game through because over the 90 minutes we were the better side."

Scorers for the under-16s were Dean Bartle, Toyan Dore, Jahsiah Donaldson, and Simon Lenighan.

United under-18s: Jones, Darville, Watson, Milne, N Turner, Baxendale (Payne), Booker, Hatfield, L Turner, Elliott, Whitwell (Birbeck).
