Bradley Johnson is mobbed after scoring United's opener at Colchester

United manager Simon Grayson was delighted to equal a club record seven straight wins to start the season at Colchester on Saturday - but was quick to warn his team still have it all to do.

The 2-1 success was United's seventh straight win in all competitions, equalling the seven wins recorded by Don Revie's side to kick-off the 1973 season.

"We're delighted to get another win," said the manager. "It keeps the momentum going and confidence is high.

"But we haven't done anything yet, we have to keep performing, and keep doing what we are doing.

"We keep trying to put out a team to win matches, and full credit to the players for the way they have done so far."

On Saturday, Bradley Johnson bagged his third goal in as many league games to give United the lead before Jermaine Beckford's fifth of the season settled matters after Colchester levelled with a penalty.

"It was another positive result for us," said the United manager. "Colchester is a difficult place to come and they are a good footballing team.

"We had to dig in there, we know we can't just turn up. We have to win the battle and hope our quality comes through.

"We keep trying to put out a team to win matches, and full credit to the players for the way they have done so far."
"We felt and looked quite comfortable. One of our 'goals' (United had two disallowed in the first half) was definitely onside.

"We knew it would come and we said that at half-time, and we kept going.

"When we conceded the penalty it was the only opportunity they had really had.

"We had to pick oursleves up off the floor after that and we went again. It was probably one of the few decisions the referee got right.

"I was baffled by quite a lot of decisions - at least he was consistent for both teams - but it's a difficult job to do."

The United boss was also full of praise for his two in-form goalscorers.

"Brad's done ever so well since he came into the team," added the boss.

"He's played wide left when central midfield is possibly his strongest position, and he's done well.

"He's a threat at set pieces and he's put in some real good performances.

"And Becks does what he does best - he gets in the right area at the right time and he's a quality finisher."
