Jonny Howson in action against Wycombe

United skipper Jonny Howson was quick to dismiss any talk of avenging the Play-Off final defeat at the hands of Watford three years ago when the two sides meet again on Tuesday.

Leeds take on Watford for the first time since that forgettable afternoon in Cardiff in 2006 and it will be a completely different United side which squares up to the Championship club in the Carling Cup at Elland Road.

Rui Marques and Jermaine Beckford are the only senior players remaining, although neither was involved in the 3-0 defeat at the Millennium Stadium, while Jonny Howson and Ben Parker also watched from the stands as Academy youngsters.

"I was in the stadium, but other than the goals and that Watford played really well, I don't remember too much of it," Jonny told LUTV.

"Obviously it was disappointing for Leeds fans because if we'd have won that game who knows where we would be now.

"But a lot has changed since then. It's not like it's just happened or it's just around the corner. It's over three years ago.

"The players here aren't thinking 'we owe you one' - we just want to win the game and keep our run going."

Jonny is expected to continue as captain against Watford, in the continued absence of Richard Naylor, but manager Simon Grayson is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding his team selection.

Nathan Ellington (knee) and Jobi McAnuff (back) are expected to miss out for Watford, but on loan Premier League duo Henri Lansbury and Tom Cleverley have been granted permission to play by Arsenal and Manchester United respectively.
