Micky Doyle in action against Exeter City

Leeds United new boy Michael Doyle was left almost speechless after a whirlwind week ended with a win against Exeter City at Elland Road on Saturday.

The midfielder, who has joined from Coventry on a season-long loan, was plunged straight into Simon Grayson's starting line-up on Saturday, and was delighted to make his debut in the League One opener.

"It was nice to get it out of the way because everything happened so fast," said Doyle.

"I was training at Coventry on Wednesday, preparing to play for them on Sunday, and then I got a phone call to get myself up here.

"I played nearly every game there last season and would have been playing on against Ipswich on Sunday. But I'd spoken to the gaffer at the end of last season, and he said he wouldn't stand in my way if something came up, so I was prepared to move any time.

"I could have stayed in the Championship, but I didn't even think about it when Leeds came in. I was more than happy to come up. Most players want to play here and would take the opportunity. I want to be part of something here.

"I already knew a lot of the players here from seeing them or playing against them and they could all be playing Championship football."

Doyle's debut went to script with United beating Exeter City 2-1 in front of the highest League One crowd of the weekend - 27,681.

"It was amazing," added the Irishman.

"I played here a few times for Coventry and the fans are unbelievable. Coming to Leeds was always a game you looked forward to. The hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you hear the crowd. I almost lost my voice out there shouting and trying to be heard.

"It was good to get the win on Saturday. It's a tough league. It's about consistency and grinding out results.

"We let Exeter back in the game, but we ground it out and got a winner. Without being disrespectful to them it could have been four or five one, but in the end we ground it out and got the win we wanted."
