Best opening day crowd since 2004...
Saturday's Elland Road crowd was the club's best opening day attendance since 2004.
The crowd for the Exeter City game was 27,681 and was the best since 30,459 watched the opening game of the 2004/05 season against Derby County.
Manager Simon Grayson said: "The crowd were terrific on Saturday, and that's how we want it to be every week. The players know it can be like that if we deliver, and that's our aim.
"You've been able to sense the buzz for a few weeks now and to see so many in on Saturday, particularly when it's still holiday time, was a massive boost for everyone."
It was also the highest gate in League One - Norwich City pulled in 25,217 and Southampton also broke the 20,000 barrier for their clash with Millwall - and was only bettered by two in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Derby County attracted a full-house 33,010 for their game against Peterborough United and the South Yorkshire derby between Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley pulled in 30,644.
The Elland Road crowd were rewarded with a 12th successive league victory, and the unbeaten run on home soil now stretches back to January 10 when Carlisle United were the last team to take any league points away from Leeds.
United's next home fixture is against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday August 22 and tickets are now on general sale for this game.
As with the Exeter match fans are advised to book in advance.
