Scotland under-21 international Alan Martin is set to join Accrington Stanley on loan.

The former Motherwell goalkeeper will join Accy in a loan deal until January 1 2010.

Accrington boss John Coleman had expressed his interest in signing Alan on loan during the summer and, following the arrival of Shane Higgs from Cheltenham, United manager Simon Grayson believes a loan move will give Martin the chance to gain valuable experience.

Grayson said: "With Casper and Shane competing, we feel this is an opportunity for Alan to gain more experience and, hopefully, play regular senior football."

It's the second long-term loan move for the Scot since his arrival at Elland Road in the summer of 2007.

He spent much of last season on loan with Blue Square Premier Division outfit Barrow.
