United midfielder takes confidence from Newcastle game...
Midfielder Bradley Johnson insists Leeds United can take plenty of confidence from Wednesday's game at Newcastle.
Honours ended even in the pre-season friendly at St James's Park, but Simon Grayson's men came up against a Newcastle side containing a wealth of experience and his players rose to the occasion.
"It was a good game," said Bradley, who again started the game on the left side of midfield.
"When you come up against players like that it's a real test. Players like Joey Barton, Alan Smith, and Gutierrez are good players, and they had internationals and it was a terrific test for us.
"As the gaffer said to us it's not about the result, although we felt we could have nicked a win, it's about the test and about us getting in 90 minutes against a good side."
United defended well throughout, goalkeeper Shane Higgs made two superb early saves, but as the game wore on Leeds started to fashion out more chances and could have stolen a win.
"When Newcastle came out they showed us whey they are in a higher league than us," said Bradley.
"We let them play a bit early in the game, but we came into it before half-time, and in the second half we more than matched them.
"The longer it went on the more open it was - both sides made chances, and it was good to play in."
Having drawn with Blackburn last weekend and now drawn against Newcastle, Bradley and Co are heading towards the new League One season in confident mood.
"If we play like that, against teams who are not as good as that, we are capable of destroying teams," he said.
"All the boys want to get Leeds out of this division and get into a higher division.
"We want to play at places like that every week and test ourselves against the sort of players we have played this week."
