Glynn Snodin, Ben Parker, and Ian Miller enjoy the lap of honour at Elland Road

Ben Parker firmly believes Leeds United's pre-season programme is motivation enough ahead of the new League One campaign.

Leeds drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road on Saturday and face another Premiership test against Burnley this coming weekend, but before that, United head for Coca-Cola Championship newboys Newcastle United on Wednesday (7.45pm).

And defender Ben reckons the chance to play against quality opponents at this stage of the campaign is added incentive ahead of a potential promotion winning season.

"We're looking forward to going to Newcastle and playing in a big stadium," he said.

"Not many of the lads will have played there before, but we could have been there this season if we'd have got promoted.

"Playing these teams gives you that added incentive and what it will be like to play at a higher level."

With the exception of a poor opening 45 minutes at Grimsby - which resulted in a half-time dressing down from the manager - Simon Grayson's Leeds have looked strong so far in pre-season and have played some attractive football.

"We feel quite strong," said Ben. "We were unlucky against Blackburn on Saturday to come away with a draw.

"We put in a good performance against a good team, but we know it doesn't count until the 8th of August.

"It's all about putting in the performances that we've taken from pre-season when we start against Exeter and Wycombe.

"We set our standards high last season, we're doing it again, and we're looking ti improve those standards."

While Leeds will head north full of confidence on Wednesday evening, Newcastle go into the game on the back of a bizarre 6-1 reverse at Leyton Orient last weekend.

"They got a hiding on Saturday and they will be looking to prove a few people wrong after that," insisted Ben.

"They will put a good team out and we will, so let battle commence! If we come out with the right result it will be great.

"Any opportunity you get to play against a top team you want to beat them. You want to improve yourself."

Newcastle United have confirmed that our fans will be able to purchase tickets on the night.

Tickets will be on sale for away fans from approximately 6.15pm from turnstiles 13 & 14 located at the North West Stand (Lower 2). Payment is cash only.

"They have passionate fans, but so do we," added Ben. "Our allocation sold out pretty quickly so it'll be a good atmosphere."
