Simon Grayson on north east trip...
Manager Simon Grayson is relishing the prospect of another big pre-season test on Wednesday when Leeds head for Newcastle.
Grayson's men travel to the north east for the penultimate senior pre-season friendly to face the managerless Geordies.
While Leeds drew 1-1 with Premier League Blackburn on Saturday, Coca-Cola Championship newcomers Newcastle slumped to a 6-1 loss at the hands of our League One rivals Leyton Orient, but the boss is still expecting a good test at St James's Park.
"This is another test for us," he said.
"They have some big hitters, they'll be smarting from a result at the weekend which no one saw coming, and it would seem they're in a bit of turmoil at this moment in time.
"But we have to make sure we are at it or we will get punished if we're not. It's another great test for us and by the end of the game we'll know where we are.
"They have 15/20 players who could grace Premiership teams, but we'll try and implement our ideas and take something from the game.
"We'll take a massive following, and it's a massive motivation for us all to get back where we were."
Comparisons will inevtiably be made between the implosion at Elland Road, which saw the club relegated from the Premiership to League One in the space of three years, and the current position at Newcastle, who lost their Premiership status in May, are without a manager, and are a club for sale.
"It is a bit different for a pre-season game," said the Leeds manager. "Five ot six years ago it would have been a top Premership fixture.
"But that's in the past. We're down where we are and they're in the division they are in, but you can't get away from the size of the two clubs.
"I was with Alan Shearer (Newcastle's caretaker manager at the end of last season) at the weekend and he didn't have a clue what was going.
"People here know what they are going through - it went one stage further here and peoples livelihoods are affected by what goes on.
"We came through it stronger as a club, but you hope someone else won't go through it."
