Paul Robinson on his Elland Road return

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson is tipping the club for promotion this season after witnessing Simon Grayson's men first hand for Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Our Academy product made a string of fine saves during the hour he was involved and says he saw enough to convince him Leeds are on the right track.

"Leeds looked very strong, very fit, and I think they will go back up this year," said Paul, speaking exclusively to LUTV.

"I think they need to go back up this year, but it's a tough league, as it has been for a couple of years.

"I think Huddersfield will be strong, they've bought well, but looking at Leeds on Saturday they look like they could start the season tomorrow if they needed to."

Robbo received a warm welcome from the Elland Road fans on his first return since joining Tottenham in the summer of 2004, and some good natured banter with the Kop faithful ended with the goalkeeper throwing his gloves into the crowd.

"It was good to be back," said Robbo. "It seems like a long time since I was last here.

"I was hoping I could have come back a little bit sooner, it's been five and a half years now.

"To come back in a friendly with such a great atmosphere and see so many Leeds fans was fantastic.

"This club has got great supporters - it always has done and always will.

"No matter what league the club's in, the supporters will always be in the Premier League and that's where this club belongs. The sooner they get back up there this stadium will fill up again.

"To get that attendance for a friendly was fantastic."

And Robinson admits that he still follows the fortunes of the club closely.

"Of course I follow the results," he added. "I was here for 10 or 11 years.

"I signed for Leeds when I was 14 and didn't leave until I was 25 or 26.

"I have very happy memories here and I owe this club a lot for my footballing career and my education."
