Ken Bates

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says he is pleased with how the summer is progressing, but admits manager Simon Grayson is still on the hunt to beef up his squad.

Jason Crowe, Shane Higgs, and Patrick Kisnorbo are the summer arrivals at Elland Road, and the chairman is expecting the summer merry-go-round to speed up over the next fortnight.

"I'm reasonably pleased with how things have gone," he told Yorkshire Radio. "Simon has some vacancies he still wants to fill.

"It has been quiet to a certain extent, but I've never known a time when so many clubs have gone abroad in pre-season. We went to Ireland, but some are all over Europe and on different continents with all the decision makers away.

"I think we'll start to see things buzzing next week with more movement. There are areas that Simon is keen to strengthen.

"There's a lot of clubs who have to sell before they can buy - we're fortunate we're not in that position - but, equally, it's no secret we have players who don't fit into Simon's plans and we are in discussions about them.

"We have one club interested in a player of ours who have said they can't do anything until next week. These things take time, and there's usually a flurry in the third week of August when clubs have started the season.

"We do have a pretty good squad. They did well last year, and particuarly with the additions he is looking to make, Simon is quitely confident."
