United manager Simon Grayson had said he was looking to see his player step up in terms of time on the pitch during the final game of the Ireland tour against Glentoran, and his starting XI was strong.
It was United's first game in Northern Ireland since 1982, and the East Belfast clash had proved a big draw with plenty of Leeds swamping the city on Friday and Saturday morning.

United started brightly -
Luciano Becchio was almost through on goal inside the opening 30 seconds - and it took some desperate defending to cut out a
Robert Snodgrass when
Jermaine Beckford was well-placed to convert.
Glentoran skipper Paul Leeman also got in a good block as Andy Robinson saw sight of goal while home keeper Elliott Morris made his first save in the seventh minute from Beckford.
The home side's first real attack came when Andrew Waterworth chased down a free-kick from deep and when the ball was squared, Ben Parker made a good block.
But it was Leeds who took the lead inside the opening 15 minutes when the ball fell to a well-placed Robert Snodgrass on the edge of the box and the Scotsman made no mistake with a good finish.
It could have been 2-0 within a minute. First Beckford was denied by a smothering save before Robinson lifted a shot over the top.
United continued to dominate, Becchio was a threat and Paul Huntington had a shot blocked.
The home side had their second sight on goal shortly before the half-hour when Richard Clarke fired wide from the edge of the area.
But it was Leeds who again went close when Johnny Taylor denied Robinson with a sliding challenge.
There were one or two feisty challenges as the half wore on, but with Leeds looking comfortable with the advantage the game drifted towards half-time with no real drama.
There was one moment, on the stroke of the interval, when Becchio got up well to meet an Andrew Hughes cross, but his header hit the woodwork.
And then, in stoppage time, Beckford beat the offside trap and ran 30 yards before rounding the goalkeeper and lifting his shot into the roof of the net.
In keeping with his pre-match promise, Grayson made just two changes at half-time, replacing Parker with Aidy White and Huntington with Tom Lees.
United goalkeeper Shane Higgs was called upon for the first serious time early in the second period when he made a save low to his left.
At the other end, Robinson saw a shot turned around the post after he showed good movement on the edge of the box.
But Glentoran pulled a goal back shortly before the hour-mark. Andy Hall was the provider and Grant Gardiner delivered a clinical strike into Higgs' top corner.
The United manager made further changes midway through the second half, taking his tally to seven substitutions, including Mike Grella, who had impressed against Shelbourne in midweek.
One of those changes, Alan Sheehan, tried his luck with a strike from his distance with his first touch, forcing James Taylor into making a decent save.
Taylor was left with no chance on 75 minutes when Bradley Johnson met a low cross from Grella inside the six-yard box, but Glentoran were spared as Johnson stabbed his shot wide.
By the 80th minute only Lubo Michalik remained from the 11 that started the game for Leeds. Glentoran had also made full use of their changes and were fielding a different team.
And with eight minutes left on the clock, Leeds made it 3-1. Enoch Showunmi seized on a defensive error to gain a sight of goal and he tucked the ball beneath an advancing Taylor.
Grella also looked to get in on the act before the final whistle, but after showing good skill to work an opening, he was denied by an acrobatic save from Taylor.
There was still time for the hosts to mount one final attack, but United's lead was untroubled and Grayson's men record their first pre-season victory in convincing fashion.
