Real Madrid celebrate

Leeds United's arrival in Ireland is usually greeted with much excitement by local fans - but another group of visitors are receiving plenty of interest this time around.

Over 3,000 fans attended United's opening game against Shelbourne and a number of fans have braved the elements to watch Simon Grayson's men in training - but the focus in the Emerald Isle is firmly on a certain team of Galacticos from Madrid who are also having their pre-season training camp in the country.

When many United fans arrived at Dublin airport on Monday they were greeted by Real Madrid's private jet sitting on the runway, and the Spanish side are based in a five-star retreat situated just outside the Irish capital.

"We've been coming here as a club for a long time and we always receive a warm welcome," said  the Leeds boss.

"We have a lot of fans based out here and it's good for them to be able to see us play games.

"For Real Madrid to be here is good for the country and their presence is certainly attracting plenty of interest!

"If circumstances allow we may try and watch them train if at all possible."

But, while Galactico fever is clearly gripping Ireland, Leeds United are still receiving first class treatment.

The boss laughed: "I think we've had more police escorts to and from the hotel than Real Madrid!"
