United manager happy bide to his time...
United manager Simon Grayson says he is content with the way the summer is progressing - and is refusing to be hurried into deals he doesn't believe are right.
The boss welcomed his squad back to training last week and will kick-off the pre-season campaign at York City on Sunday with two new additions in his ranks.
The boss says he is fed up of the constant speculation, and he is working towards fine tuning a squad which he believes will mount a serious challenge.
"Whether we start with this group of players, we'll have to wait and see," he said.
"I would expect one or two new ones to come in and probably one or two to go out as well.
"The summer can be a restless time for fans at any football club because there's nothing else to do. There are no games to watch, there's no real activity going off and fans are keen for things to happen.
"I could have quite easily have gone out and signed six dozen players if I wanted, but they wouldn't have been of the quality I think I need to bring in to the football club.
"We said last year that there isn't a great deal that needs to be changed around with the squad, and those changes that do need to be made will be made.
"There are lots of avenues we can go down. Free transfers, signing players for money, and the loan market of which I've made no secret about the fact that I am a fan. We'll also be looking at trialists.
"You have to use every avenue, but sometimes it can take just one move to trigger things off."
United chairman Ken Bates has already said that he anticipates movement both in and out before the start of the new season.
He has also moved to confirm that, despite recent media suggestions surrounding a sizeable legal bill following a court case with the club's former director Melvyn Levi, the club's intentions in the transfer market remain unchanged.
"The club's activity in the transfer market will not be restricted because of the recent court decision," confirmed the chairman.
"As we have previously stated we will restrict our recruitment to those players identified by Simon that he believes will supplement our current squad within our budgets.
"Speculation during the pre-season period is always at its height and as always, facts not speculation will be announced by the club."
