Enoch Showunmi back in training

Striker Enoch Showunmi says he is "feeling good" after taking part in a full training session for the first time in seven months this week.

The former Bristol City marksman scored five goals in six starts following his move to Leeds last summer, but he was ruled out from December onwards after suffering a blood clot on his lung.

While the 26-year-old was able to take part in running sessions, he was unable to join the rest of the squad in training until the players returned for pre-season at Thorp Arch on Thursday.

"I''ve been keeping fit over the summer, and I'm glad to be back and ready to play football again," said Enoch.

"The last four months I was on my own in terms of training so it was good to get back with the lads this week.

"I'm feeling good. I have been running and have been ticking over. My body's fine and I feel fit.

"I have a blood test at the end of July to see what the doctors think, but I feel good and I can see myself playing.

"I just want to get some games under my belt now."

The first day back saw plenty of running, but also some ball work for the players ahead of a week of double sessions leading up to the pre-season friendly against York City.

"It wasn't too bad on Thursday," said Enoch. "The boys put in a lot of hard work, but everyone got through it.

"The lads are looking fit. They have all worked hard over the summer and everyone is ready to go.

"It's all about getting your fitness up to match tempo now. Hopefully you get the hard work done as quickly as possible and get back to the games."

United manager Simon Grayson was pleased to see Enoch back on the training ground.

"He's well on the way to recovery," said the boss.

"He did a lot of running with the physios at the end of last season, but couldn't do anything with any contact.

"Now, he's fully fit and able to join in. Enoch will be involved in pre-season and the games and we'll take it from there."
