Shane Higgs in action for Cheltenham

Leeds United have signed former Cheltenham and Wolves goalkeeper Shane Higgs.

The Oxford-born goalkeeper, a member of Wolves promotion squad last season, has joined on a one-year contract and will provide competition for Casper Ankergren.

The 32-year-old joins Leeds after spending 10 years at Cheltenham Town.

He made over 300 appearances for the Whaddon Road club, but joined Coca-Cola Championship winners Wolves on an extended loan deal last season where he provided additional goalkeeping cover for Mick McCarthy's squad.

United manager Simon Grayson said: "I'm glad we've signed Shane because he will provide increased competition for places with Casper and Alan Martin.

"Shane is a very experienced goalkeeper and he ended last season on loan at Wolves who held him in very high regard.

"He's desperate to make an impression and has the hunger and the desire to succeed at this football club.

"He is another player who we've signed - and are looking to sign - who has the experience of this division and the know-how to help us achieve our goal of promotion."
