Statement from the Leeds United chairman...
Following a High Court ruling on Thursday morning when Leeds United chairman Ken Bates was ordered to pay £50,000 damages, following libel action taken by former club director Melvyn Levi, the Elland Road chairman has issued the following statement.
He said: "We were disappointed in the judgement handed down, some aspects of which we find rather extraordinary, and we are considering an appeal.
"This morning, the Judge refused us leave to appeal, but also refused to give any reason why, which is unusual. But he will give written reasons in due course.
"When we have received his written reasons we will consider whether to go to the Court Of Appeal.
"Since the manner is still the subject of sub judice neither I nor the club can say any more at this time."
