Simon Grayson in cricketing action at Elland Road

Leeds United are preparing to take on the World at Elland Road later this month.

While the club's footballers are set to return to pre-season training ahead of the new League One campaign, a host of international cricketers are preparing to represent Leeds United in an Elland Road cricket clash against the Lashings World XI.

The star-studded clash, the first Twenty20 match ever to take place at Elland Road, takes place on Friday July 31 (6pm) and kicks-off the build-up in the city ahead of the Ashes Test, which starts at Headingley the following week.

A number of international cricketing greats have already pledged their support for the Elland Road clash and the Leeds United team will be skippered by West Indian batsman and former Yorkshire star Richie Richardson.

Former West Indies pace-man Courtney Walsh is representing Leeds United, along with former England opener Nick Knight, and ex-Yorkshire and England bowler Paul Jarvis.

Pakistan trio Rashid Latif, Mohammed Akram, and Saqlain Mushtaq will also represent Leeds United.

The Lashings World XI boasts a host of stars from the cricketing world, including Chris Harris, Alvin Kallicharan, Devon Malcolm, Graeme Hick, Phil Defreitas, Henry Olonga, Stuart Law, Ed Giddins, Gordon Greenidge, John Emburey, and former Yorkshire players Ian Harvey, Jason Gillespie, and Greg Blewett.

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson could also make a guest appearance against Lashings while further signings will be announced in the coming weeks.

The ground-breaking game will be played under Twenty20 rules and tickets are now available priced at just £10 adults/£5 juniors.
