Striker set to be offered new contract...
Leeds United chief executive Shaun Harvey has confirmed the club will be offering leading goalscorer Jermaine Beckford a new contract.
Beckford, who scored 34 goals last term, has 12 months remaining on his existing deal, but following public comments by his agent, who claimed "there was no future" for the striker at Leeds, the United CEO moved to clear up the matter.
"In simple terms it's not for Jermaine's agent to decide when Jermaine is contracted to us for a further 12 months," he said.
"I spoke with Jermaine Beckford's agent on Wednesday and we will be forwarding the offer of a new contract now we know which division we will be playing in next season.
"It's unfortunate that a choice appears to have been made to discuss contract negotiations in public via the media, and I'd be disappointed if any Leeds fans interpreted what has been attributed to his agent as Jermaine's desire to leave.
"I understand Jermaine's desire to have his future resolved and know what the future holds for him, but I think there's plenty of time to resolve this matter over the summer.
"Having seen Jermaine's reaction at the end of last Thursday night when he was virtually inconsolable, that didn't look like the reaction of a player who is desperate to get away from a football club.
"I understand he wants his future resolving and so do Leeds United, and it will be done in a proper manner between the two parties."
