Trialist bags hat-trick against Barnsley reserves...
Leeds United reserves cruised to victory against Barnsley reserves at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
American trialist Mike Grella bagged a hat-trick and Neil Kilkenny also found the target as the reserves beat the Tykes 4-0.
It was a comfortable victory against a young Barnsley side as United took control early on with a dominant first half display.
The game started in disappointing fashion with central defender Paul Telfer suffering injury after just nine minutes, but Leeds went on to take control of the contest with a good attacking display.
Grella, David Prutton, and Malcolm Christie all went close inside the opening 20 minutes before Kilkenny had a shot saved and Lubo Michalik hit the bar.
But the breakthrough came on 32 minutes when a Ben Parker cross was deflected to Grella and the striker delivered a cool lob.
Two minutes later, it was 2-0 to United with Kilkenny delivering an unstoppable shot.
The second half continued in the same vein and after Alan Sheehan tried his luck, Grella made it 3-0 with another lob, following a Chris Ovington pass.
The USA youth international trialist rounded off the night on 86 minutes when he completed his hat-trick - and made it 4-0 - with a good strike.
United: Lucas, Gardner (Hotchkiss 80), Telfer (Lees 9), Michalik, Parker, Prutton, Kilkenny, Sweeney, Sheehan, Christie (Ovington 64), Grella.
